Dear
Mr. and Mrs. Mracek,
meanwhile I heard that you are planning to go to Israel, which would be
o.K with me, because of very similar transplant protocols for FA and enough
experience there.
Regarding the transplant costs at the Charité it is probably a
misunderstanding. In fact, the primary transplant costs are around 130.000,-- €
for the in-patient time up to 2 months. For the majority of FA patients this
time is enough to start the follow up completely on an outpatient basis. The
problem is, that in a minority of patients the inhouse stay has to be prolonged
because of infectious complications or in case that a second transplant is
required. Then the costs might go up to 250.000,-- to 300.000,-- €, and the
Charité always wants to have a guarantee in advance. Unfortunately, I have
no influence on the financial policy of the Charité. In any case, it will
probably less expensive in Jerusalem.
Then
you asked about my offer to give some help for a transplant done at Motol. That
was indeed the case by an Email contact with Dr. Zwaan in the Netherlands and
Prof. Stary in Prague. But then I did not hear anything anymore.
If you have already arranged everything with Prof. Slavin,
then you might go there. You are clearly in good hands.
What
ever you decide, I wish you all the best and hope to hear from
you
